The work stems from Moira Ricci‘s personal experience. During the summers between 2002 and 2004, the artist was hired as a photographer on the beach of Lido di Savio, in the province of Ravenna. The frustration of being frequently rejected or ignored by those she offered to pose for portraits was reworked by Ricci, who decided to photograph the people on the beach from afar, subsequently cutting out their silhouettes and placing them on her own body sunk in the sand. This discomfort translates into a self-portrait in which the artist is trampled by a multitude of people who, unaware of her presence, continue to walk carelessly over her.

Moira Ricci (b. 1977, Italy) is an artist whose research, often autobiographical, explores themes of individual and social identity, family history, and the original connection to the territory, intertwining technological invention and the rediscovery of the vernacular image.
