How to get to Cortona

Getting to Cortona may not seem easy, but it is certainly worth it. By train, bus, plane or car, there are many options that make the city accessible. The Etruscan village of Cortona is among the most evocative in Tuscany and, in addition to our Cortona On The Move festival, it is full of experiences and places to visit, between the historic center of the town and the surroundings of the Val di Chiana.

Main arrival train stations are:
Terontola-Camucia. Taxi service or bus which in 30 min will take you to Cortona – Piazza Garibaldi
Camucia-Cortona. Taxi service or bus which in 10 minutes will take you to Cortona – Piazza Garibaldi

If you’re driving to Cortona
From ROME: take the A1 in direction Florence; take the exit BETTOLLE-VALDICHIANA and drive in direction Perugia. Then take the exit CORTONA and follow directions for Cortona.

From FLORENCE: take the A1 in direction Rome; take the exit BETTOLLE-VALDICHIANA and drive in direction Cortona.

From MILAN: take the A1 in direction Rome, take the exit BETTOLLE-VALDICHIANA and drive in direction Cortona.

From PERUGIA: take the Raccordo Autostradale 6 Bettolle-Perugia/Raccordo Autostradale A1
in direction AREZZO. Take the Exit CASTIGLION DEL LAGO and then follow directions for Cortona.

BY PLANE

Make the most of your trip and explore the area by train and bus!

Florence airport
From there take the shuttle to main train station Santa Maria Novella and then a regional train to either Terontola-Cortona or Camucia-Cortona station.

Roma airport
Go directly to the train station indicated by signs. You will need to change trains in either Roma Tiburtina or Roma Termini. Catch the regional train to either Terontola-Cortona or Camucia-Cortona station.

Milan airport
With the Malpensa Express you will get to Milano Centrale in 1 hour ca.
In Milano Centrale take the train to Firenze Santa Maria Novella where you need to change and then catch the regional train to either Terontola-Cortona or Camucia-Cortona station.

Perugia airport
Use Perugia Airlink, the combined service for train + bus which connects the Perugia train station with the airport.

Where to sleep

The best way to visit Cortona is to sleep in the historic center of the Etruscan village, but the surroundings also offer accommodation options that allow you to easily reach Cortona On The Move and visit the Girifalco Fortress, all the festival locations and the special places of the town .

How to get around Cortona

In the historic center of Cortona you can move on foot, with a pair of comfortable shoes and the desire to discover Cortona On The Move, all the places of the festival and the village. During the festival period we provide a shuttle that connects the historic center to the Girifalco Fortress and to reach Camucia-Cortona station there is a regular bus from Piazza Garibaldi.

ON FOOT

Most of the Cortonaonthemove exhibitions are within walking distance. Take advantage to reach 10,000 steps a day!
We have a free shuttle service which will take you to the Fortezza.
The exhibition at Stazione C is reachable by bus from Piazza Garibaldi with a regular service.

Services in the city

Between the Cortona On The Move festival and the many things to see in Cortona, there is no shortage of services to make visits and travel easier. The center of Cortona is a restricted traffic zone, but there are car parks, parking areas for campers, electric charging stations and taxis that can access the village.

PARKING PLACES

Where to park in Cortona?
Once you’re parked, everything is within walking distance!

The center of Cortona is a ZTL (limited traffic area) and is monitored by cameras which control the access. Any vehicle entering without permission risks a fine.

There are 4 parking places:
Piazza del Mercato and Porta Bifora are free (white or no stripes means FREE PARKING)
Spirito Santo in Viale Cesare Battisti (from here you can reach Piazza Garibaldi via escalators) and Piazza Mazzini (Porta Colonia) are upon payment (blue stripes means you have to pay ca. 1.50€/h from 8.00 – 20.00 daily).

Disabled people can access the ZTL exhibiting the disabled card and communicating the number plate 36 hours before arrival to the local police.
