Atlas of the New World

The Amilcare G. Ponchielli winning project – 20th edition | Founded by GRIN – Gruppo Redattori Iconografici Nazionale

Atlas of the New World is a visual map of landscapes transformed by the climate crisis. Based on scientific data, the project proposes photography as an “authentic lie”, projecting future scenarios directly onto the subject photographed at the moment the shot is taken. The ecological crisis thus becomes visible in the present, making tangible what would otherwise remain difficult to imagine. The technique adopted is based on an entirely analogue process: some slides depicting images of future landscapes are projected onto the surrounding reality. The final image is the result of this temporary fusion between the present and the future. Atlas of the New World is not just a document of what we stand to lose, but a visual manifesto for rethinking our present.
