Echoes of Uncertain Silence
With Médecins Sans Frontières along the migration route in Mexico

Recent measures adopted by the US government have stranded hundreds of thousands of immigrants in Mexico who were travelling to the United States. They live in informal camps, exposed to the elements, without access to basic services, and at risk of illegal extortion, sexual violence, kidnapping, xenophobia and racism. Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) supports people living in this limbo and in need of healthcare and psychological assistance. In addition, MSF helps build an inclusive community that connects migrants with the local population. This is the starting point for the work of Yael Martínez, who has documented the condition of those who are undergoing a journey of physical healing and inner reconstruction.

Bio 

Yael Martínez (1984, Mexico) is a Magnum Photos photographer, and he documents fractured communities in Mexico and in Latin America. His images reflect the suffering of those affected by the state and by organized crime.

Médecins Sans Frontières is an independent international medical humanitarian organization that since 1971 provides medical assistance in more than 70 countries to populations whose survival is threatened by armed conflict, violence, epidemics, natural disasters or exclusion from health care.
