Cold Trail – Forensic Realism
Between 2015 and 2022, Barakonyi was embedded with the Hungarian police force, where he applied forensic image-making methods to document the traces left by people at crime scenes. All of the images shown here are taken at scenes of minor crimes. These bodies of evidence are impossible to interpret without context. Bereft of words, every picture is suspect. Nevertheless most people will always anticipate the worst-case scenario. To the “outside eye,” the most exciting photographs are ones that make us feel uncomfortable and are more about the mystery surrounding the crime.
