Carl Ander
Static Motion

Since 2015, Ander has been collecting manuals illustrated with photographs on the topics of sports, health and self-help. Presenting pages from books without fully disclosing their accompanying instructions, therefore there is no longer any explanation regarding how to interpret these images. Nonetheless, this does not completely negate their ability to teach. The integration of illustrations and graphic elements, as well as the group of the photographic, suggest that a single frame alone is unable to indicate motion. Collectively, these images can now serve as a manual on how to photograph the body in motion.

Carl Ander (1991, Lidköping, Sweden) is a photographer and artist interested in the use and function of photographic images. His practice involves creating photographs as well as recontextualizing found images, from archival material.
