Steffi Reimers
Guilty Grounds

A project by Dutch photographer Steffi Reimers exploring the landscapes of Calabria, whose images serve as silent witnesses to the crimes of the ‘Ndrangheta.
Using targeted lighting to reveal signs and traces, the memory of human violence resurfaces: scars on the ground and remains are the traces of what those places have witnessed. The landscape is not a passive subject, but a protagonist in preserving the memory of the land and the lives that have lived there.
Guilty Grounds confronts viewers with the tension between natural beauty and human atrocity, indicating their ambiguous coexistence.
