Reversed landscape
Silvia Camporesi explores the boundary between reality and fiction by photographically recreating inaccessible places. Unable to photograph Fabbriche di Careggine, a submerged village in Lake Vagli, she reconstructed it on a 1:25 scale, photographing it in three phases: submerged, emerging, and emerged. For the submerged Roman city of Baia, she instead recreated the seabed in an aquarium using miniature statues. In both cases, we witness a distortion of the landscape and a manipulation that guides our perception. This alteration intertwines with the limitations of photography: the artist questions its fidelity to reality, revealing its ambiguity through minimal details and a conscious mise-en-scène.
