Revolve explores the museum space through the concept of the “fragment”: what remains of the past and, through the museum, is reconstructed and returned to the historical narrative. In a place where the artefacts of vanished civilizations are collected, exhibited and interpreted, Agostini focuses on absences and the ways in which the museum attempts to reconstruct a history from what is missing. Casts, models, reconstructions and archive photographs become fundamental tools, on a par with the original artefacts, in the reconstruction process. The tension between presence and absence is reflected in the visual rendering of this work. Through collage, Agostini constructs a heterogeneous visual atlas, in which full and empty spaces alternate, evoking memory, loss, discovery, and the incessant desire to reconstruct the past.

Bio 

Eleonora Agostini (1991, Italy) is an Italian artist living and working in London. In 2021, she was selected by CAMERA – Centro Italiano per la Fotografia for the Futures Photography program.
