As it was Give(n) to Me

“As it was Give(n) to Me” traces exploration and extraction of coal in the Appalachian region (USA): these activities took valuable resources from the land, leaving the people who lived there impoverished. As Stacy Kranitz made this project, it became clear to her that she was part of a legacy of photographers that in the past had offered a simplistic and superficial image of misery in these areas. How can the photographer represent a region where the medium has failed the people?
