“Icons” is a long-term project about iconic images of international photographic history. In their studio, Cortis and Sonderegger build three-dimensional models, and after that, they photograph these constructions from a particular angle so that the new images appear again as two-dimensional scenes. So “the copy of the copy of the copy of reality” leads to a vertiginous metaphysical experience that repeatedly confronts the viewer with issues that have to do with visual perception.
Bio
Jojakim Cortis (1978, Germany) and Adrian Sonderegger (1980, Switzerland) met at the Zurich University of the Arts in Switzerland. Their book “Double Take” was published in 2018, in English, in German and in Japanese.
