Candida Höfer
Perfect beauty

From 2003 to 2012, Candida Höfer traveled to Italy, bringing her own perspective to the country’s vast architectural heritage. Particularly interested in portraying public spaces—libraries, museums, theaters—with a formal precision that renders them both precious documents and contemplative works, the German photographer’s large-format prints depict vast, empty rooms, capable not only of describing specific places and architectural styles, but also of speaking about the people who pass through those spaces daily.
