Lighting techniques applied to portraits

Two days of intense visual and conceptual analysis of lighting applied to portraits and practical shooting exercises inside a city building.
In-depth study of the different lighting methods to give participants the opportunity to use a variety of light sources (natural light / flash / continuous light).

Programme summary

First day
Morning: Viewing of participants’ portfolios and presentation of my work in relation to light, analysis of different light sources and their practical use.
Afternoon: Shooting with daylight and flash indoors and outdoors
Evening: After dinner, night shooting with artificial light and flash
Second day
Shooting in different locations
Review, editing and projection of participants’ work.

Material: Participants must bring a tripod, computer, memory card reader, a camera set with one lens – preferably a normal one. Participants will be able to present their work either in paper (prints, books) or digital (computer) format.
The workshop is aimed at: Professional photographers and students
They will not have to present a specific work but show what they have done/do on the medium they prefer.

Time: 16 July at 10 a.m

Bio

Paolo Verzone was born in Turin in 1967 and lives between Italy and Spain.
He became interested in photography at a very young age. In collaboration with Alessandro Albert, in 1991 he realised a work of portraits on the inhabitants of Moscow, collected in the volume Volti di Passaggio,published by Peliti Associati.
Paolo Verzone collaborates as a portraitist and reporter with leading Italian and international magazines including: National Geographic, Time, Newsweek, Le Monde, The Independent, Sunday Times.
In 2014, he completed a project on the Military Academies of Europe collected in the volume : Cadets, Editions de la Martinière.
In 2022, he completed the first part of a project on the Arctic collected in the volume Spitzbergen, published by Mare Verlag.
In recent years, he has won several awards including: 3 World Press Photo, Canon Young Photographers, American Photography , Sony Photography award.
His images are in the collections of the Victoria & Albert Museum in London, the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris and the National Institute for Graphics in Rome.
Paolo Verzone is a member of Agence Vu in Paris.
He has been a Canon Ambassador since 2017.
