After suddenly losing his mother, Toledano decides to confront his fears and attempts to guess the abrupt and unforeseen directions his life might take. “Maybe” is an attempt to capture his future. He took a DNA test, consulted with fortune-tellers, tarot card readers, numerologists, and palm readers. He even read statistics and learned how to move like older people. Finally, working with a skilled prosthetics expert, he made these images based on his research.
Philip Toledano (London, 1968) considers himself a conceptual artist. The themes of his work are primarily socio-political and vary in medium, ranging from photography to installation, sculpture, painting, and video.
