Nick Hannes
Garden of Earthly Delights

Until the 1960s Dubai had no electricity or running water. It was the discovery of oil in 1966 that triggered the wave of modernization. In record time, Dubai transformed itself into a global metropolis.
Nick Hannes traveled there five times, between 2016 and 2018, in order to put his prejudices about the city to the test, a city which is an out-of-control entertainment venue, designed to service unbridled consumerism. His photographs function as a scalpel, using wit to slice through this metropolis of the future.

Nick Hannes (b. 1974, Antwerp, Belgium) works on documentary projects, in which he tackles contemporary socio-political subjects with visual metaphorics and subtle humor.
