Marco Zanella documented the life, places and transformations of a small town in the Romagna countryside, portraying the poetic quality of the province. Today Cotignola, the town famed for the mela cotogna, is home to about 8,000 souls, but does not have the appearance of a town suffering from an identity crisis. On the contrary, it displays the genius loci of a place where a community is bound to its own rural culture.
The project started with an artistic residency and soon became a photography campaign commissioned by the City of Cotignola. From this research was born the book Scalandrê, published by CESURA Publishing in 2021.
