Ultima Chance
In the poor suburbs documented by Garofalo (Milan, Rome, Florence, Naples, Paris, and London), where trap music plays loud, the voice of lawfulness struggles to make itself heard. The lyrics of trap songs tell of street life, crime, violence, drugs and easy money, Democracy and legality are no longer values—they have been replaced by trap culture, a flourishing channel of communication among these young people, yet distant and deliberately elusive to everyone else. On the outskirts of the city, trap music becomes a true soundtrack for an ongoing societal emergency, of a seething mistrust in our institutions and the only social ladder left to climb.
