Mirjam Kooiman

Senior Curator Foam

Mirjam Kooiman is an art historian, curator and writer, having created over 40 exhibitions at Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam — among them The Camera as a Weapon, Ai Weiwei — #SafePassage, John Edmonds — A Sidelong Glance, and Missing Mirror: Photography Through the Lens of AI.
A running thread through her work is photography’s ever-evolving nature as a technology — from Daisuke Yokota’s darkroom experiments and Dominic Hawgood’s explorations of belief and digital perception, to the AI-generated images explored in Missing Mirror — a question she has returned to across many exhibitions: what is photography, and what is it becoming?
What drives her most is artists who, whatever technologies they use, open up worlds we have never entered before: whether that is Samuel Gratacap’s portrait of migrants crossing from North Africa to Europe, Giath Taha’s brother in Syria only reachable through an online game while war kept the real world closed between them, or the way photographers such as Carlijn Jacobs or Paul Kooiker use the framework of fashion to enter the surreal. Mirjam has contributed to several art publications and artist books, regularly joins international juries and continuously writes for Foam Magazine. She is also co-founder of De Kunstmeisjes, a Dutch independent art review platform through which she has co-authored two books.

Chiara Magni

Head of Public Engagement Medici Senza Frontiere

Chiara Magni is Head of Public Engagement at Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), the international medical humanitarian organisation. For nearly twenty years, she has worked in communications for non-profit and international organisations. She leads the Public Engagement Unit at MSF Italy, which promotes public involvement in humanitarian issues through campaigns, events, partnerships, and special projects.
As part of her work, she oversees cultural initiatives dedicated to photography, publishing, and cinema, exploring their potential as tools for testimony, storytelling, and raising awareness about contemporary humanitarian crises.
Bearing witness is part of MSF’s DNA, just as much as providing medical care and saving lives. For MSF, bringing attention to humanitarian crises and sharing the stories of the people affected by them is a fundamental responsibility. Documenting what happens in crisis settings means not only informing the public, but also fostering greater awareness and encouraging concrete action in support of the most vulnerable communities.
For this reason, MSF has been involved in photographic initiatives and collaborations for many years.
