A career-enhancing opportunity for early & mid-career photographers to take part in an intensive two-day masterclass in the beautiful setting of an old Italian monastery.
It will be a unique opportunity to reflect on your work, and bond with peers who are passionate about photography.

In the mornings:
Focusing on professional practice: Simon will share insights from his own successful artistic practice, covering subjects such as funding and marketing of photographic projects, approaching galleries and exhibiting work, print sales, editioning and tips on working with editors.

In the afternoons:
portfolio review and group discussions

Who is Simon Roberts?

Simon Roberts (b.1974) is a British photographer whose work deals with our relationship to landscape and notions of identity and belonging. He has published and exhibited widely and his photographs reside in major public and private collections, including the George Eastman House, Deutsche Börse Art Collection and V&A Collection. In 2010 he was commissioned as the official British Election Artist by the House of Commons Works of Art Committee to produce a record of the General Election on behalf of the UK Parliamentary Art Collection; and most recently he was made an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society.

He has published four critically acclaimed monographs, Motherland (Chris Boot, 2007), We English (Chris Boot, 2009) – voted as one of the best photography books of the past decade – Pierdom (Dewi Lewis Publishing, 2013) and Merrie Albion (Dewi Lewis Publishing, 2017).

Materials: All workshop participants must bring a portfolio of work, either in printed form (prints, books) or digital (computer). A camera is optional; there will be an opportunity for shooting, however, these won’t be assessed during the workshop.

Addressed to: Professional photographers and students, preferably in their final year of study.

Dates: Arrival dinner 9 July / Workshop days 10 & 11th July, 10-6pm with communal meals.
