“American Pictures” by Jacob Holdt is a collection of eighteen thousand plus photographs, an absolutely unique document of racism, poverty, oppression, love, hate and friendship in America.
It was produced by Holdt during his five years of intensive travels in the USA, as a vagabond with forty dollars in his pockets. The exhibition is focused on the most intimate photographs taken in homes in the American South, in Appalachia as well as in the ghettos of the East and the West coast.
Jacob Holdt (1947, Copenhagen, Denmark) is a Danish photographer, writer and lecturer.
Lars Lindemann (1973, Hamburg, Germany) is the Director of Photography and Deputy Visual Director at GEO and PM.
