Staged Photography – Creating an image within a larger narrative
with Guia Besana September 29th-30th 2018
During the course of this workshop, Guia Besana will invite you to explore different alternatives for photographic staging – the key element of her modus operandi – in a creative laboratory which engages you both as director and subject.
Objectives
– Learning how to develop and stage a scene from the standpoint of your personal vision/perception.
– Playing with the available space so as to create a situation which illustrates an idea, and the image can become part of a larger narrative.
– Building an image
– Identifying and analysing the elements that will help you develop an aesthetic structure
Program
Day 1
– Presentation of Guia Besana’s work, and other photographers who use staging as a working method
– Portfolio readings of participants
– Identifying objectives
– In-group preparation of a staging concept based on a prearranged idea
Day 2
– Shooting – editing and final discussion
Who is Guia Besana?
Born in Italy 1972, Lives and works in Barcelona, Spain

Guia Besana, (b.1972), Italian self-taught photographer currently living and working in Barcelona, Spain. After studies in media and comunication in Turin, Italy, in 1994 she becomes photographer and moves to Paris (France). With a particular attention to women’s issues she travels in different countries and joins Anzenberger Agency in 2005 and the Gallery in 2013. Her work is regularly published in international magazines and blogs: CNN photo blog, The New York Times, Huffington Post, Marie Claire, Vanity Fair, Le Monde, Courrier International, D di Repubblica, Esquire…Her work has been recognized by several international awards: Los Angeles LADCA, MIFA, MarieClaire International Award, AI AP, PWP – Professional Women Photographers, finaliste au Julia Margaret Cameron Award, finaliste au prix Leica Oskar Barnack . With her personal project Baby Blues she won the Amilcare Ponchielli Grin 2012. Her images have been exhibited in New York (USA), Los Angeles (USA), Buenos Aires (Argentina), Italy, France, Spain and Malaysia.
